The German solar market expanded by 1.688 GW of new PV capacity in the month of August 2026, according to Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA), the Federal Network Agency. 

The country recorded 1.47 GW of solar additions in August 2026 as of September 14, 2026, stated BNetzA. Allowing for late registrations, the total August additions are estimated at 1.69 GW. 

August additions declined from the 1.85 GW the agency reported for July 2026 (revised from 1.83 GW previously). The decline was even steeper from the 2.04 GW added in August 2025 (see Germany’s July 2026 New Solar Installations Exceed 1.8 GW). 

The latest monthly additions include 977.2 MW of ground-mounted solar installations, 440.3 MW of rooftop solar, and 57.8 MW of balcony solar or plug-in solar – all lower than July 2026 additions of 1.05 GW, 757 MW, and 66.2 MW, respectively. 

According to BNetzA, between January and August 2026 German solar additions totaled 11.25 GW, expanding the country’s cumulative installed capacity to 129.25 GW. 

To achieve the country’s 215 GW solar PV target by 2030, its monthly installations must reach 1.65 GW, says the agency. However, the German Solar Association (BSW Solar) warns that the planned changes to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and grid package by the government will increase the cost of building new solar parks and slow down expansion nationwide.  

The government has proposed replacing permanent feed-in tariffs with direct marketing for new renewable energy projects under the amended Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) (see German Cabinet Backs Ending FITs For New Rooftop Solar Under EEG). 

In their present form, if passed, these proposed measures could increase the electricity generation cost of new solar parks by more than €0.01/kWh, warns BSW.  

A recent Enervis study, commissioned by BSW-Solar, found that Germany’s solar generation reduced electricity procurement costs by €15.7 billion in 2025, with wholesale prices estimated to have been about 20% higher without PV.
